A 25-YEAR-OLD woman has found herself in the grips of the law for allegedly dipping the hands of her three-year-old step daughter into a bowl of boiling water.Rebecca Amoako was said to have committed the act last Sunday September 5, 2010 at their residence at Fetteh Kakraba in the Central Region after the small girl had urinated on the porch to the room where she normally cooked meals. The suspect, according to information available to DAILY GUIDE, is a step-mother to the victim.A source said the victim’s mother left the child in the care of the father and step-mother, after their marriage broke down.Rebecca Amoako, who allegedly maltreated the little girl at the least opportunity, was remanded into prison custody by the Awutu Bereku District Magistrate Court, presided over by E. O. Darko, to reappear on September 28, 2010.Giving the facts of the case in court, Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo, prosecuting officer in the case, indicated that on September 5, 2010 around 6.00pm, the victim urinated on the porch to the room where the accused person normally cooked. She said the suspect, who became offended, held both hands of the poor girl and dipped them in boiling water on fire.“The act caused several burns on both hands of the victim that she could not even eat,” the prosecutor said.Chief Inspector Aidoo narrated that a report was made to the police, whereupon a medical report form was issued for the victim to be taken to the hospital for treatment.“The accused was later arrested by the police upon investigations, where she confessed having committed the act”.The court therefore referred the three-year-old girl to the Children’s Hospital for proper treatment.Meanwhile, the father of the victim, according to information available to DAILY GUIDE, wants the child to be released to him.Source: Daily Guide
