The National Chief Imam, Sheik Usman Nuhu Shaributu, has called on Ghanaians, particularly Muslims, to appreciate the current serene atmosphere they live in and spend part of their time praying for the country and its citizens.
He said recent calamities that are bedeviling the whole world should remind Ghanaians to appreciate the atmosphere they currently live in.
The National Chief Imam made the call when President J. E. A Mills, through his representatives led by Emmanuel Adzei Anang, presented bags of rice and curtains of oil to the Chief Imam towards this year’s Eidel Fitr.
According to Sheik Sharubutu, it is important that religious leaders pray for a ruling government of a nation, explaining that if a president and his or her leaders live in peace, all the people in that country will also live in peace.
He used the occasion to congratulate Muslims for a successful fasting and wished them well towards the celebration of this year’s Eidel Fitr.
From the National Chief Imam’s residence, the government’s representatives visited the National offices of Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, where similar donations were made on behalf of government towards a successful Eidel Fitr.
At Ahlussunna Wal Jama, the Greater Accra Regional Imam, Sheik Umar Ibrahim Imam, commended government for its kind gesture and called on Ghanaians not to depend solely on government for a better living but rather work hard to support the development of the nation.
Maulvi A’ Wahab Adam, the head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, stressed that it helps for Muslims to go through the 30-day fasting as it enables them to have mercy on the poor in the society, particularly when they come across a hungry person.
