Residents of Asawase E-Line, a densely-populated suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region, were shocked last Wednesday when an eight-year-old boy stabbed his four year-old sister. The young boy (name withheld), according to witnesses, used a bread knife to stab his younger sister (name withheld) in the forehead, left hand, stomach and right thigh, resulting in profuse bleeding. The four-year-old girl, with blood all over her body, amidst wailing and shouts for "help, had to flee their mother's room to avert further stabbing. The young girl reportedly used a hot iron to burn his brother's face, compelling the irate young boy to retaliate in that bloody style to the shock of residents of the area. The entrails of the young girl were seen gushing out after the assault on her but both she and her brother survived the incident as they were sent to the hospital on time. Recounting what triggered the incident to journalists, Maame Yaa, who resides in the same house with the two children and their mother, said she was in the house when the brother and sister returned from school on the day of the incident. The mother of the children, before leaving home, left some money with Maame Yaa to be given to the children for food when they returned from school. Minutes after the two children had come for the money, Maame Yaa heard some shouting and wailing so she hurriedly rushed from her room to the children's mother's room to see what was amiss. According to her, she met the young girl running out of her mover's room with blood all over her body, saying "I will not do that again, please forgive me." Maame Yaa said she entered the room only to see the young boy with the bread knife, also crying that his sister burnt him with a hot iron at the lower part of his right eye, so he too stabbed her with the knife. The two children were immediately rushed to the Manhyia Hospital for first aid, after which they were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KAMI). Source: Daily Guide
