One more person has been confirmed dead in an armed robbery attack in Zebilla in the Upper East region.
The incident which occurred Friday night brings the death toll to two. One other person is in critical condition after the robbers shot at them.
The heavily armed robbers, four in number, were allegedly robbing a wholesale provision shop.
They fired indiscriminately in their attempt to escape and in the process injured several people and killing two.
The incident triggered an emergency District Security Council meeting of the Bawku West District Assembly Saturday morning.
District Chief Executive, Simon Agbango Anyan, has been outlining measures agreed to prevent a recurrence.
"One of the issues they [police] complained about was that staffing situation was a problem and they have only one vehicle and the district is so big that one vehicle is not enough for their duties,” Mr. Anyan said.
He said the Assembly has agreed to provide the police with a temporary vehicle for patrol and repair another police vehicle which has been out of use for a long time.
He added that the IGP has also been informed and urged to beef up the numbers in the district.
