The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings after her party confirmed her flagbearer for the November polls.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) at a congress held at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra on Saturday declared the former first lady as their presidential candidate after she went unopposed.
The former first lady after her confirmation called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from government.
Mrs. Rawlings also urged Ghanaians to vote for a visionary leader.
Nana Addo in a statement welcomed Mrs. Rawlings into the presidential race and was hopeful that her experience will help broaden Ghana’s political discourse.
The statement said, “Her wealth of experience in Ghanaian politics should put her in good stead to help steer and shape the nature of our political discourse from one of attrition, personality attacks and negative preoccupations to an issues-based campaign, hinged on the competition of policies and ideas.”
“That is how the public interest of our nation can be best served. The New Patriotic Party and I welcome her into the race for the Presidency and wish her well,” it added.
