The Electoral Commission is set to roll out its Continuous Registration exercise to register eligible voters who could not get their names on the electoral roll in the Limited Biometric Voter Registration exercise.
The continuous registration exercise could begin immediately if political parties agree on the modalities set by the EC, according to its Director of Elections, Samuel Tettey Martin.
This follows pressure on the Commission after some eligible registrants expressed displeasure that they could not register in during the 11-day limited registration exercise which ended last Sunday.
Many especially students at various university campuses blamed the EC for not providing adequate centres leading to a slow pace of the process. The EC had to open up two additional centers for the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Assesing the exercise on the Joy FM's Super Morning Show Tuesday, the Director of Elections at the Commission assured the general public that eligible voters can visit district offices of the commission to register.
The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo welcomed the idea of continuous registration.
Meanwhile, the Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party, Martin Agyei-Mensah Korsah says the Commission should rather heed to calls for an extension now.
"If you don't even consider extending it nationwide, just for the schools (University Campuses) where we can practically verify that there are these huge numbers, send some one or two equipment there, for me that will be better than the continuous registration," Agyei-Mensah Korsah, insisted.
