Political tension is mounting in the Adansi South District over a ‘marching-off orders’ handed the Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, Hon. E. K. Yankah by the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Francis Dorpenyoh, from the District's Tender Board of the Assembly.
According to a letter published by The Independent, the DCE took the action for what he termed, the MP's release of official information on the Assembly to the public.
The letter, with reference number ASD/SKS/19/vol II/57 and dated April 20, 2007, was duly signed by the DCE.
Meanwhile, another letter with reference number, ASDA/SKS/19/Vol II/29 dated January 4, 2006, according to the paper, also talks about the membership of the Assembly's Tender Committee.
This other letter, signed by the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr. K. Osei Poku, on behalf of the DCE, indicates that per the law, a District Tender Committee is to have a Member of Parliament on board, subsequently, in the case of Adansi South District Assembly which has two MPs, they will serve on the Tender Board on an annual rotational basis.
According to the letter, Hon. K. Appiah-Pinkrah, the NPP MP for Akrofuom, was billed to serve on the Board in 2006, while Hon. Yankah, the MP for New Edubiase was also billed to serve on the Board this year 2007.
It therefore beats the understanding of some political pundits why the DCE is taking such an action, while some are also wondering whether he is the appointing authority and if he has the powers to do that at all.
