Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region has taken a swipe at the Mills-led administration for what he sees as a desperate attempt to obliterate the legacies of the erstwhile Kufuor administration.Although it has not been officially confirmed, indications are that the Jubilee House built by former President Kufuor would be restored to its former name, the Flag Staff House. A metallic inscription to that effect has been embossed on the wall of the edifice adjacent to TV3 at Kanda. The over $70 million edifice which has office and residential accommodation for the president has been the subject of hot debate after President John Mills refused to relocate there.Speaking in an interview with Adadkabre Frimpong Manso on Adom Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Mr Kofi Jumah described the move as childish and uncalled for.Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for former President Kufuor has said the renaming was borne out of pettiness and nothing else.He said the action by the government is unnecessary and decried what he described as an attempt to vilify and discredit former President Kufuor and all that he did.Mr. Agyekum explained that the rationale behind naming the building which is to serve as the official seat of the president was because it was built in Ghana's Golden Jubilee Year, adding that because the old flagstaff house was a colonial legacy it was expedient to delink the new state from all colonial memories.Earlier this year, a part of it was handed over to the Foreign Affairs Ministry temporarily after their offices were razed down by fire.Source: Adom FM/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
