As vehicular activities heighten this latter part of the year, Ashanti region’s finest radio station, Luv 99.5 Fm has hit the streets of the Garden City in a float to create road safety awareness to reduce accidents this festive season.
The annual public service campaign, initiated ten years ago, is running on the theme: ‘Drive Safety into 2011’. It forms part of the station’s social responsibility to educate motorists, pedestrians and the general public on the effects of road accidents.
The campaign includes the hanging of a crashed car at major rounds-about and intersections in the Kumasi metropolis to serve as a caution to drivers.
Staff of sponsoring institutions joined other volunteers in the float to interact with motorists and other road users on the need to prevent accidents during the Christmas festivities and beyond.
They held placards and distributed leaflets to caution road users. Particularly visible in the float was the team from Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited.
Ms. Anim Baba Alhaji, Corporate Customer Relations Manager with oversight responsibility for responsible drinking, was excited to the successful outcome of the exercise.
She said the company will not relent in drumming home the message of responsible alcoholic intake.
Other sponsors for the 2010 Luv FM Road Safety Campaign are Shell Ghana Limited, Regency Alliance Insurance, Impulse Energy Drink, Toyota Ghana, Latex Foam, Elite Kingdom Investments and VIP Transport.
The exercise is supported by the National Road Safety Commission.
