Hiplife musician, Michael Kwabena Okyere Darko popularly known as Obrafour has disclosed to Hitz Entertainment News that he is set to embark on a Malaria awareness tour this March. The tour he said is in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Scheme and will see him performing across the length and breadth of this country. He said, he will travel to some of the country’s most rural parts with the sole aim of educating the populace on malaria and its preventive measures. The tour he explained will start in March and will run through to 2012. “I am embarking on a Malaria [tour] somewhere in March in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and National Health Insurance to go to villages to educate and inform the people about malaria and its preventive measures. That is going to be nationwide…It is even going to eat into next year,” he disclosed. Obrafour in December 2010 started a nationwide tour, Obrafour Music Tour, with the theme: Realising Your Potential Through Reading, to help inculcate the culture of reading in Ghanaians. The tour which has so far been to some towns in the Northern and Southern parts of Ghana was his way of giving back to Ghanaians after about 11 years in the industry. “…Ghanaians have made me Obrafour, they love me and all that and for them putting me here with the help of God, if I don’t do anything and (you know) one cannot be at the forefront of music throughout his entire life, so I decided to payback to society by undertaking projects. This is the first of its kind. There are a lot more lined up for me this year.” His last performance was in the Ashanti Region Kuamsi at the Baba Yara sports stadium and Obuasi with the next stop being the Brong Ahafo region. Artistes who joined Obrafour on the tour include Ayigbe Edem, Guru and Castro. Obrafour hopes to raise GHS 200,000 from the tour with all proceeds going to charity through Read For Wealth, an NGO that advocates for reading in Ghana and provides reading materials to deprived communities and people.
