The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) may have missed an opportunity to dispel criticisms that promises in its manifesto are not credible.
Deputy Head of Research of the party, Peter Boamah Otokunor, who appeared on news analysis programme PM Express on the Joy News channel on Multi TV to discuss the contents of the NDC policy document failed to provide critical figures, making his interaction with host of the show adversarial.
For instance when asked to provide a list of 123 senior high school projects which the party claims to be “at different levels of completion” the Deputy Head of Research of the ruling party failed to do so.
“I am beginning to feel that you are expecting me to carry all 123 schools to this place to show that these are the schools,” he told show host, Malik Abass Daabu.
He will, however, say that from 2009 till now the ruling party has been able to achieve some monumental progress in transforming the education sector.
“We have been able to build some 11,800 new institutions. These are not institutions where we are adding laboratories or upgrading,” he said suggesting the buildings are new.
Mr Otokunor's inability to provide figures to back the NDC's claims of achievments in varied sectors in the party's Green Book feeds into the opposition New Patriotic Party's accusations that they are "phantom promises".
