Security has been beefed up at Johannesburg's Milpark Hospital ahead of the planned media conference by the Presidency, Madiba's family, doctors and the Mandela Foundation on the former president's current condition. Specialists say Madiba suffered from a collapsed lung.
There is international concern about Mandela's health as South Africa and the world wait for a media briefing at 12.30 today. It is day three since the former president was admitted at the Milpark Hospital. SAPS and Metro Police officers have been spotted on the premises and its surroundings.
Meanwhile, members of the press are arriving in their numbers hoping to hear the latest about Madiba's health. Messages of support are also continuing to stream in for the elder statesman.
Learners at the nearby school are pasting placards on the school fence. One reads, "We love you Madiba, we hope you recover soon".
It's quiet outside the Mandela home in Houghton, Johannesburg this morning. Unlike yesterday when there was a strong police presence and a number of vehicles including a military van, there are just two vehicles outside the gate today.
Members of the media, who were kept a distance from the house, camped on Madiba's street until very late last night.
