Local Government Minister Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has directed District Chief Executives in the ten districts where the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is taking off to start public education on the project. The project aims at improving mobility in metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.Vice-President John Mahama last week cut sod for commencement of the special lanes needed for the project to take off.Mr. Ofosu Ampofo says the public education will create public awareness ahead of time about the inconveniences the construction of special lanes will create to forestall any future opposition.“In the execution of this project there is likely to be some discomfort but at the end of the day it will enhance efficiency,” Mr Ofosu Ampofo told Joy News.Unlike regulation of public transport operations which has over the years been in the hands of private operators, under this urban transport project, regulation of urban transport services will be undertaken by the assemblies. He promised that the necessary structures would be put in place to see a smooth running of the project, and enforce the law binding its operation.Story by Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
