Confusion is brewing among members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region over a parcel of land in the area.
The land, which belongs to a local church, has served as a football pitch for the youth of Sawaaba, a suburb of the town, for some years.
But owners of the property have begun construction of a fence wall round the land.
The inability of the youth to forcibly take over the land has resulted in the defection of over 250 NDC members in the constituency to the opposition NPP.
Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey reports that constituency executives of the NDC however say the defectors are dancing to the tune of the opposition NPP.
Secretary to the so-called Concerned Supporters of the NDC in the constituency, Faisal Mohammed, claims the defectors were not known as supporters of the ruling party.
He however said the party was working towards addressing the grievances of the constituents.
Faisal said the government needed to reciprocate the massive support of the constituents by appointing them to higher positions in government.
