Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has said it was important to have good infrastructure in schools to create congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning. “Good infrastructure and necessary materials should promote learning and that completion of school buildings is paramount to quality education in the country”, she added. Ms Mould-Iddrisu said this at the handing over of Airtel Ghana’s Adopted and renovated school, Himakrom Methodist Primary School, to the Education Ministry. She said completion of school infrastructure should be prioritized since it was the basic need to deliver quality education. “There is much to be done in promoting quality education at all levels and any contribution to support the development of the sector is welcomed,” Mrs Mould-Iddrisu said. She said the government was committed to ensuring that school children all over the country irrespective of their locations were provided with decent and appropriate infrastructure. The abolishing of some 2,350 ‘school under trees’ and the ‘shift system’ are some of the intervention being pursued by the government, she said. Mr. Philip Sowah, Managing Director, Airtel Ghana, said the company selected the school due to the fact that it was central and serves the educational needs of other rural communities. He said the company was ready to offer support in the education sector. “Airtel is working closely with the Ministry of Education and other relevant institutions to identify schools in various locations which need assistance,” he said. Mr. Sowah said the adoption of the school and the provision of teaching and learning aids, furniture, school uniforms, shoes, playground and a furnished library shows the company’s commitment at enhancing quality education delivery in the country.
