A level 300 Physician Assistantship student of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Aminu Abdul Manaf has won the maiden edition of the Stanbic App Challenge, Tuesday.

Aminu won the challenge with the ZEALOUS App which is a fusion of several mini apps which include currency converter with 171 currencies and live exchange rates.

The App offers users the opportunity to check past rates and view the trend between two currencies on a line graph. It also provides an expense tracker, interest rates checker on Treasury bill as well as live news from websites.

Mr Manaf walked away with 20,000 Ghana Cedis and an all-expense paid trip to the E-Commerce Africa Conference in the South Africa's town of Cape Town.

Speaking at the Grand Finale of the Stanbic App Challenge, Head of Marketing and Communications at Stanbic Bank, Mawuko Afadzinu said the bank is prepared to invest more money in improving financial literacy of Ghanaians.

He disclosed that many Ghanaians have issues with money because of the lack of understanding about investing.

“One of the major reasons why so many of us in this part of the world have money issues is because we don’t understand the principles of handling and growing money,” he said.

He said the challenge rests on the bank to ensure that Ghanaians have the understanding and knowledge which help them to better handle their money.

Head of PBB at Stanbic Bank, Nana Benneh Dwemoh was confident the many creative ideas presented at the App Challenge will impact a lot of lives.

He was excited most of the people who took part in the competition are young, saying it will help the country in the future.

“The world today is moving towards a digitized environment. And what’s more appropriate than to be able to combine money with the digital world we now live in,” he said.

The Stanbic Money App Challenge is a national mobile app development competition which forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The competition began in March with the aim of engaging programmers and software teams to create innovative financial education tools.

Each submission was evaluated and the winners determined based on their conformity with financial literacy, creativity and originality of solution, viability of the concept, and thoroughness of the materials submitted which must be in compliance with the requirement of the contest.

The 1^st runner-ups were Foster Awintiti Akugri and Norris Boateng designers of the SIKAPONG App took GHȼ7000.

The designers of STANBIC SAVER came third with a GHȼ5000 cash prize. Other seven finalists walked away with GHȼ2000 each.
