Telecommunications operator Airtel has presented a cheque for Ȼ4,600 to Breast Care International, BCI, to support the NGO's awareness creation programme on breast cancer.
At a brief presentation ceremony at the Peace and Love Hospital, on the Spintex road, Accra, Kayode Basanya, Manager, call centre, Airtel said the gesture formed part of Airtel’s corporate social responsibility which hinges on good dietary habits and the welfare of women, among others.
Airtel, he continued, identifies with the campaign against breast cancer and commended BCI for the intense countrywide awareness creation programmes against the disease.
Commenting on the humanitarian gesture, President of Breast Care International, and CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said Airtel’s assistance was commendable, especially when the act was at the instance of the workers themselves, adding that it demonstrates the readiness and willingness of corporate Ghana to safeguard the health of women.
Dr. Wiafe commended corporate institutions supporting the campaign and insisted the disease is no respecter of persons, hence the need to collectively create awareness in a bid to reduce the rate of death from the cancer.
