Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari says the Black Stars must win the African Cup of Nations tournament after finishing second in last year’s edition in Angola.
The Sunderland midfielder returned to the squad last month during the friendly against Togo after being ignored since the World Cup in June.
Muntari was part of the squad that helped Ghana to reach the quarter finals of the global tournament in South Africa under coach Milovan Rajevac.
Coach Goran Stevanovic took over from his compatriot in January and has made Muntari a key player of the squad.
With their impressive outing over the past one year, Muntari says it is time for the Black Stars to win a trophy.
“We have got no option but to win something next year and that’s the Africa Cup of Nations title,” Muntari told MTNFootball.com
“It is not enough to say that we played well and got to an advanced stage of the competition.
“We did a great deal under the previous coach and achieved a lot. But it is time for us to win something if we are to show that we are really good," he said.
Ghana must beat Congo to brighten their chances of reaching the 2012 African Cup of Nations to be hosted in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
