Youth and Sports Minister, Clement Kofi Humado has withdrawn the new Legislative Instruments spelling out new ports regulation from parliament. The LI would have handed legitimate backing to the SMC decree 54 which is currently used to govern sports administration. This decree was recently used by government to elect new officers of the Ghana Olympic Committee in breach of the IOC Charter, leading to the international body banning the country from its activities indefinitely.According to Kofi Humado, the LI needs to be reviewed since it contradicts the Sport Amendment Bill, which government has laid before parliament.“This withdrawal will enable the ministry to have further consultations in order to resolve certain technical problems associated with the LI,” he explained.Source: Joy Sports/Ghana
