The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has congratulated President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his victory in last Wednesday's polls.
The Association spoke of its pride in Nana Akufo-Addo who is also a very senior and distinguished member of the Association, being the third member of the GBA to be elected President since the advent of the fourth Republic.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the National President, Benson Nutsukpui and National Secretary, Justin Amenuvor also applauded the Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei for conducting a "free, fair, generally orderly and peaceful" election.
The Association said it shares in the joy of Akufo-Addo's "achievement and wish him well as he embarks on the arduous task of administering the affairs of our nation. We pray that the Almighty God would guide and protect him during his term as President."

THE GHANA BAR ASSOCIATION’S STATEMENT CONGRATULATING NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO, PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) wishes to congratulate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President-Elect, who incidentally is a very senior and distinguished member of the Association, on his election to the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana. As an Association, we are proud of the fact that he is the third member of the GBA to be elected President since the advent of the fourth Republic. The GBA shares in the joy of his achievement and wish him well as he embarks on the arduous task of administering the affairs of our nation. We pray that the Almighty God would guide and protect him during his term as President.
The Bar notes the fact that the elections were free, fair, generally orderly and peaceful and would wish to applaud the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, the Deputy Commissioners, Members and staff of the Electoral Commission for successfully superintending the 2016 general elections.
The GBA also extends our congratulations to all members of the Bar who have been elected to represent their various constituencies as members of Parliament.
We would also wish to congratulate His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, all the other Presidential candidates and leaders of the various political parties on their general show of maturity and responsibility during the 2016 elections.
The GBA is gratified by the respect for the rule of law demonstrated by Ghanaians during the 2016 elections and hope we all would continue to be law abiding, strive to promote peace and deepen democracy in the country. We thank the general citizenry for the peaceful manner in which the elections were held.
