The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has appealed to government to help complete the construction of an ultra-modern health facility in Wantugu in the Tolon District of the Northern Region.

The project which is to replace the old dilapidated Wantugu Health Center is about 80 percent complete but work has stalled due to lack of funds.

Health officials say the current center which has only one detention room that accommodates only three people at a time, but authorities say they are sometimes forced to have to handle over 20 patients a day burdening the facility.

Also, they complain that it is too small to serve over 12 communities. 

The new facility, when completed, will have two consulting rooms, maternity wards, male and female wards, Out Patient Department (OPD) and a medical store.  

The contractor has left the site due to what the CCFC said is the unavailability of funds to complete the project.

CCFC said it has already invested over GH¢175,000 into the project which is estimated to cost GH¢210,000 to complete.

The child based organisation believes financial assistance from the central government through the Tolon District Assembly will go a long way to finish up the construction of the facility and improve healthcare in the area. 

The Partner Programmes Manager, James Amadu Kenyake who is with the Baptist Child Development Programme tells Joy News the Assembly had earlier made a commitment to partly fund the project but is yet to step in. 

He said the new facility when completed will augment government’s efforts to improve healthcare in the area and therefore appealed to the District to step in to help complete the project in order that it starts operating soon. 

The District Chief Executive for the Assembly Seidu Abubakar has assured the CCFC the assembly will honour its part of the funding. 

According to Mr Abubakar, the assembly has approved the funding which is expected to be released in 2017.

The Acting Incharge at the old Wantugu Health Center, Yussif Issah Techi tells Joy News the new facility will improve healthcare in the area. 

He says with new wards and consulting rooms, the new facility will reduce the pressure on them and help them provide the best of healthcare to the people.
