Managing Editor of the Gye Nyame Concord, Alfred Ogbamey has tipped President Mills to emerge winner of the upcoming presidential primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Ogbamey said given the mass regional endorsements of the President, he is convinced that President Mills will win the party’s presidential primaries and lead the NDC in Election 2012.
The former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings resigned her position as Vice Chairperson of the NDC to contest the incumbent President Mills in the party’s presidential primaries.
Mrs. Rawlings stated that, her decision to resign her position was to enable her prepare herself adequately to contest the flag-bearership when nominations are opened.
Alfred Ogbamey on Asempa FM’s current affairs programme, Ekosii Sen on Tuesday said President Mills has some advantages over Mrs. Rawlings to make him victorious in the upcoming elections.
He noted that even though he sees nothing wrong with Mrs. Rawlings contesting President Mills, the party should have taken step to get the former First Lady, to rescind her decision.
The Managing Editor of the Gye Nyame Concord however took a swipe at former President Rawlings on his incessant attacks on the Mills administration for not prosecuting corrupt officials in the Kufuor administration - something Mr. Ogbarmey believes Mr. Rawlings is also guilty of.
“People have failed to tell President Rawlings the truth. He talks about corruption; under him we had the worst corruption perception index” he added.
According to him, Mr. Rawlings fails to see that he is also fallible but always portrays himself as the hero.
“You are a founder of a party; you have a sitting president who is the leader of the party - the party is under attack; the government is under attack left, right. You do not take the shine out of the leader. He president Rawlings will not have allowed it” he observed.
