Action Chapel International (ACI) in collaboration with KRIF Ghana Limited and U.S Embassy in Ghana will organise its maiden edition of Good Corporate Governance Conference on January 31, in Accra.

The conference will bring together over 150 representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, and international organisations operating in the country.

Also partaking are the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and members of the diplomatic corps to brainstorm ways of promoting good and sustainable corporate governance in the country.

ACI’s Chief of Staff and Executive Chairman of KRIF Ghana Ltd., Rev. Kennedy Okosun, briefing journalists about the event, said: “This is an initiative to highlight the relevance and core values of good corporate governance: transparency, equity and the rule of law.

"Through this series, we will be pooling together over 3,000 dignitaries and policymakers who share in the vision of effective governance as a tool for sustained national socio-economic growth.”

Rev. Okosun indicated that the conference will lead to the development of a charter on good corporate governance to which public and private sector organisations could commit their operations.

According to him, organisations that are able to adhere to the ideals of the charter will be recognised at a special awards ceremony as part of the initiative.

He said over the next five years, the series will be held in various cities across the world and urged media practitioners to support the course of promoting good corporate governance in the country.

Economic Counselor at the U.S Embassy, Jimmy Mauldin, touted the significance of the initiative as it will enhance the socio-economic fortunes of the country and its citizens.

According to him, the series when efficiently sustained will help to better the gains of governance in the country as it will stir action from both government and civil society in the manner that will help to among others, tackle the menace of corruption.

“Bad social practices such as corruption gives rise to difficult issues that need to be addressed. This initiative is a great opportunity for various participants to collectively dialogue on the relevance of good corporate governance,” he said. 

Mr Mauldin added that values such as integrity, good governance and transparency are vital tools for the growth of any economy and its people.

Speakers of the high-profile conference include the U.S Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson, and the founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams.
