Ghana will host the 13th edition of the Union of Federation of African Karate (UFAK) Zone 3 championship from July 30 to August 6, 2011.
A statement signed by Patrick Anyidoho Cofie, Secretary General of the Ghana Karate-do Association said Ghana was mandated to host the championship following its impressive performance at the last edition held in Niamey, Niger in May 2010.
UFAK Zone 3 comprises Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Niger and Togo, with about 176 Karatekas and officials expected to participate in the championship.
Meanwhile, a seven-member Local Organising Committee headed by Wolanyo Agra, Director General of the National Sports Authority has been inaugurated to plan towards hosting a successful championship.
Other members are Michael Nunoo, President of Ghana Karate-do Association (Vice Chairman), Alice Attipoe, Eric Banoeyele, Erasmus Adorkor, Frank Danso with Patrick Anyidoho Cofie as Secretary.
The statement said the LOC has identified the University of Ghana as the venue for the seven day competition.
