Ghana first choice goalkeeper Richard Kingson has thrown his international future into doubt after angrily claiming he will retire from the Black Stars after Friday’s match against Congo.
The ex-Blackpool shot-stopper made the threat after he was prevented from beating up an abusive fan during the Black Stars training session on Monday.
After the angry clash, Kingson told a reporter “Friday match will be my last”.
Kingson’s longevity has been a butt of jokes for some local fans who feel the 33-year-old must quit the Black Stars.
During Monday’s training session at the Ohene Djan Stadium, the former Blackpool gloves man allowed in a soft goal during which a fan used an abusive language to mock at him.
He took off his gloves and was prevented by the Black Stars medical team from leaving the field to beat up the fan from the stands.
Kingson was jeered anytime he made an error and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Sammy Adjei applauded for making saves.
After Tuesday’s training session, he told an Etv Ghana reporter who asked about his expectations on the Congo match: “Friday will be my last match and I will retire from the national team.”
It is unsure if Ghana’s safest pair of hands is serious or has been infuriated by the behaviour of the fans.
