Central Regional Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has warned members of the Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ camp to be careful with their utterances about President Mills.
He said any attempt to denigrate the President, as they have already begun, might incite others from the opposing camp to launch scathing attacks on them.
Dr. David Sunu, a member of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ campaign team, recently described the President as an impotent party leader, a comment he later had to clarify because he said he had been misconstrued.
Mr Micheal Teye Nyaunu, Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo and also a member of the Konadu team, was also heard on recording claiming the President could not read due to his poor eyesight.
On Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday, Mr Allotey Jacobs who was disgusted by such comments asked the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) to desist from such activities.
He noted that Nana Konadu’s reason to challenge the President rested with the excuse that he was not ‘jailing’ opposition figures just as the case was during the reign of the Kufour administration.
But he insisted that Ghana could not make a cycle of hatred the pivot of its democratic dispensation.
“Time is past gone with arresting people, accusing people, sending people to the courts,” he said pointing to members of FONKAR and added that “it doesn’t augur well for our democracy.”
Mr Jacobs stated that FONKAR’s unfair criticisms and public show of disrespect to the President was rather winning him sympathy and would translate into more votes for Mills at the July congress.
The Communications Director said the Mills camp had decided to be decent and respectful in its campaign because Ghana would turn upside down should they respond to attacks from the Konadu camp.
“They should take care,” he warned, reminding them that both Mills and Konadu belong to the same NDC.
