Those who thought former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ moves to contest the flagbearership of the governing NDC were only a bluff must now think again.Mrs Rawlings Wednesday submitted her nomination forms at the party’s headquarters.A Deputy General Secretary of the NDC and Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Mr Kofi Adams submitted the forms on behalf of Mrs Rawlings to the party’s General Secretary, John Asiedu Nketiah.Presenting the forms, Mr Adams said Nana Konadu “has mandated us to present these nomination forms that she picked as testimony of her readiness to conclude the process, become the flag-bearer of the party, and give the party a one-touch victory come December 7, [2012].”With Nana Konadu as president, Ghanaians, Mr Kofi Adams surmised, will have a good Christmas in December. Not only that, he said with the former first lady as the NDC’s flag-bearer, the ruling party can and will avoid run-offs.Sounding as though he was speaking to NDC delegates, Kofi Adams said the NDC was reputed as always setting the pace, citing the introduction of the decentralization system and the re-establishment of constitutional rule in 1992 to back his claims. He said it was about time the NDC set yet another milestone by electing a female presidential candidate. At this juncture the General Secretary asked whether it was not better to finish the presentation process before the comments, provoking laughter.Nana Konadu’s nomination has been proposed by Kofi Adams himself and one Michael Tetteh and seconded by Cephas Denutsu, Peace Aku Ashong, Gabriel T. Koku and Peace Y. King.Receiving the nomination forms, Mr Asiedu Nketiah, known as General Mosquito, wished Mrs Rawlings well in her campaigns and hoped that she will avail herself for vetting either on the 8 or 9 June 2011.He rejected a request by the Konadu campaign team to be allowed representatives on the various committees planning the elections.
