NDC MPs have held a meeting with former President Rawlings to discuss the party’s July 8 congress which will select a presidential candidate for the NDC for the 2012 elections. The MPs say they have been concerned about the acrimonious campaigns of the two main contenders – President Mills and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.Deputy majority chief whip George Kuntu Blankson told Joy News the meeting yielded the desired results. He said the meeting was not intended to ask President Rawlings to convince his wife to withdraw her candidature.“It wasn’t something that we were going to impress on somebody to get out of the contest. No! That wasn’t the notion of our mission to the place,” he stated. He revealed that the reception accorded them was cordial, deferential and friendly.Mr Kuntu Blankson said the former president urged the two factions to move as a family despite the upcoming contest. He said the MPs jaw-jawed with the founder of the party where both sides aired their views and grievances on occurrences within the party.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
