President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has replied his critics who accuse him of being in a haste as far as his appointments are concerned, saying he is a man in a great hurry. 

He said he got to work to immediately after his inauguration by quickly putting his team that would help him govern because there is no time to waste.

"I have heard it said that I am behaving like a man in a hurry, Mr Speaker I am indeed in a hurry. The times in which we live demands that we all be in a hurry to deal with the problems we face," he told Parliament during his State of the Nation Address, Tuesday.

He said he is grateful to Parliament for the expeditious manner of vetting and approving his ministerial appointments.

All 36 of the President’s ministerial appointments have been vetted and approved despite some of them facing some challenges before being passed by Parliament.

Some of them were made to provide additional documents to substantiate some claims they made during their vetting.

Some of the new ministries created include the Business Development ministry to be headed by Mohammed Awal; Railway Development, which is under the leadership of former Attorney General, Joe Ghartey while Madina MP Boniface Saddique is the new minister for Inner City and Zongo Development.

Others are Monitoring and Evaluation, which Dr Osei Akoto is the sector minister and the Ministry of Regional Re-organisation which would be headed by Okere MP, Dan Kwaku Botwe.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East, Joseph Yeileh Chireh has charged President Akuffo Addo to speedily introduce a legal instrument to parliament to back the new ministries he has created.

He said the instrument which would clearly spell out the mandate of the new ministries need to be introduced quickly to avoid a turf war.

Although this is yet to be done, the president told the House he looks forward to them dealing with his other nominees yet to come in an equally fast manner.    

“Now that the processes of the composition of the Council of State have been completed, I shall inaugurate the Council this week, which would enable me to proceed rapidly, with the appointments that need to be done in consultation with the Council,” he said.

He added by the end of March, the full appointments to be done in consultation with the Council should be completed by March.

President Akufo-Addo said the conditions of the nation demands government machinery to function effectively and at full force and that “nothing is left on autopilot.

“The conditions demand that all of us, each and every one of us tackle every task before us with speed and dedication," he said.
