The Editor of the Lens newspaper, Kobby Fiagbe, says President J.E.A. Mills is a victim of his own success. According to him, the incessant pressure on the president to deliver on his promises is due to the successes he has chalked in his half-term in office. Mr. Fiagbe noted that President Mills and the National Democratic Congress party [NDC] made some promises to the people of Ghana ahead of the 2008 elections which included massive infrastructural development – a promise he believes President Mills has executed well. “One of the pledges that the people of the NDC made to the people of Ghana is massive infrastructure development” he said on Multi TV’s political talk show program, Caucus. He noted that since within two years President Mills has been able to fulfill this promise, the public is expecting more from him. “The massive infrastructure development that is taking place in just 2 years of his [President Mills’] tenure is creating an impression as though he has been in power longer than 2 years and so people expect that it should have been more.” According to him, some members of the public think that “if in 2 years he could have done this, then maybe he could have done a lot more and that is one of the reasons why he has become a victim of his own success”. He added that “as far as I am concerned, that and the fact that the president is remaining true to his promise to build a better Ghana where he will not repeat the evils of the past, the cycle of viciousness and vindictiveness that has characterised our politics especially during the early days of the NPP era, in making sure that those things are things of the past, I think they massively deserve him to be endorsed again.” According to Mr. Fiagbe, despite all the criticisms being leveled against the president, there are some people outside the NDC party who have confidence in him.
