Ghana’s boxing fraternity has been hit by the mysterious death of Mohammed Sampado, a middle weight boxer.
The boxer’s almost decayed body was retrieved from his Chorkor room on Monday and sent to the Korle-Bu Mortuary.
Sampando has never won a title but performed consistently in the Ghana Boxing Authority Professional boxing league five years ago.
Mohammed Sampando recently changed his first name to John after converting from Islam to Christianity.
He was one of the boxers lined up for the Rumble in Oseikrom Promotion held in Kumasi but withdrew due to poor conditioning.
It is not yet clear what caused his death.
Joy Sports’ Nathaniel Attoh who was at the Korle Bu Mortuary minutes before Samapando’s body was deposited reported of flies buzzing over the dead remains of the boxer.
A friend to the deceased, Malik Tugah told Attoh their attention was drawn to a bad stench emanating from Sampado’s room and upon investigation they found the decomposing body.
Tugah does not know any of the deceased relatives but said he hails from Nabdam in the Upper East Region and called on the MP, Moses Asaga to assist in finding the family members of the deceased.
