A former Chief Executive of Asante Kotoko and a close friend of the Rawlingses, Mr. Herbert Mensah has rubbished a supposed list of appointments to be made by Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings if she becomes President of the country.
Speaking to Abena Asiedua Tenkorang on XFM's morning show, 'the Big Bite' on Wednesday, Mr. Mensah referred to the publication as ‘not making practical sense’ because Mrs. Rawlings at this point in time is on a different mission.
He described the former First Lady as very practical, highly intelligent and very educated person who is trying to explain her agenda of wanting to become President and putting structures in place to contest at the NDC congress in July instead of “sitting in an armchair considering a possible cabinet for her would-be government”.
The Daily Dispatch on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in a publication sought to state that, it had come across a list left unattended by a leading member of Mrs. Rawlings’ campaign team which names Herbert Mensah as Chief of Staff, former President Rawlings as Head of Security, Hon. Alban Bagbin as a possible running mate, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Gen. (rtd) Nunoo Mensah, Kwamena Ahwoi among others for ministerial appointments should Mrs. Rawlings occupy the highest office of the land after the 2012 polls.
Herbert Mensah opined that Mrs. Rawlings’ main concern has to do with how to offer a different approach to governance aside what is prevailing, than getting people into political offices.
“What I do know is that Mrs. Rawlings is really looking and saying how can we actually be different? How can we in that short space of time that you have as a democratic leader in Ghana bring about that kind of change that the country now sees itself moving in another direction? So she is really interested in how people’s lives can change as opposed to people taking positions for the sake of it”.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yamin and M.P. for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu who have both been named in the said list in separate interviews have expressed surprise at the list, describing the publication as immature.
