A former National Vice Chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Faustina Nelson has warned of adverse consequences in 2012 if the negative campaign strategy adopted by the a faction contesting the flagbearership position of the party is not brought to a halt.According to Madam Nelson, such comments would be very difficult for the party to defend in their campaign which may result in a defeat in the 2012 General Elections. Her comment comes after a close ally to the Rawlingses Mr. Herbert Mensah on Monday May 9, 2011 alleged that President Mills had budgeted GHS 90 million for his campaign to win the NDC flabearership slot.Mr. Mensah who cited a source in the Castle said the President’s action is an abuse of incumbency against his opponent, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. His allegation was corroborated when the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) accused the Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME) of intimidation and bribery of party delegates to secure victory for President Mills. The Campaign Coordinator of the Konadu for 2012 Campaign team and Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu has also blamed persons opposed to Mrs. Rawlings’ bid to lead the NDC of sending him death threats. But Madam Faustina Nelson on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday stated that such comments are verbal ammunitions which the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) would use against the NDC in 2012.She said the corruption allegations which contributed to the defeat of the NPP in 2008, being the same allegations that party members have leveled against the Mills-led administration could ruin the NDC’s chances of retaining power in 2012 if measures are not put in to correct that perception.Madam Faustina Nelson advocated for disciplinary measures to be put in place to punish those who may engage in such unhealthy campaigns. The former leading member of the 31st December Women’s Movement called for unity before and after the July 8 Congress in Sunyani for a smooth victory in election 2012 to enable President Mills continue his developmental projects to achieve the Better Ghana Agenda.Madam Nelson was very optimistic that President Mills would thorougly defeat Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at the Congress.Story by: Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
