Police in Ashanti Region have arrested nine persons in connection with deadly clashes at Kumawu Bodomase following a renewed chieftaincy dispute last month.
Five policemen and two military officers were wounded in the clash.
The conflict began after one Barimah Tweneboah Kodua V decided to attend the funeral of the late Kumawu Akyempenghene in his capacity as Kumawuhene.
Reports indicate that Nana Kodua V had been destooled and hence was not fit to present himself as chief of Kumawu.
Police say they tried to prevent Barimah Tweneboah Kodua V and his men from entering the funeral grounds, however, they resisted and started firing gunshots, injuring five police officers in the process.
According to Police, one of the men also threw a petrol bomb that landed on a military officer, injuring him and another officer standing close by.
Ashanti Region Police PRO, ASP Yaw Nketia, says they are on a manhunt for other perpetrators on the run.
The nine persons arrested, including the destooled chief, have been charged with five offenses: routing with offensive weapons, abetment, causing harm, causing damage and attempted murder.
