Fourteen people have been confirmed dead in an accident at Gomoa Mprumeim on the Apam Junction-Winneba Highway late Sunday afternoon.
This was after their vehicle had a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer, eyewitnesses have said.
An articulator trailer with registration number GE 3282-X from Accra-Mankessim section of the road crashed with a Benz Sprinter with registration GM 1129-16 travelling from the opposite direction to Accra.
According to the Apam District Police Command, 12 females and two males traveling in the Benz Sprinter died on the spot. The police are yet to get further details about the victims.
An Officer at the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), DSP Emmanuel Adu Boahene who confirmed the accident has urged motorists plying the route to exercise patience as police work to clear traffic on the road.
Earlier on Sunday, four final year students of Sunyani-Tanoso Nursing Training College died in an accident on the Sunyani-Abeseim road.
This was after the car they were travelling in from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Nomination Jam held in Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo Region, was involved in an accident.
Eyewitnesses told Sky FM’s Pius Oppong Asamoah that they suspect that the driver was drunk before he rammed the Nissan Primera they were travelling in into a tree.
He was the only survivor but the ladies who are reported to be in their early 20s all died on the spot.
