The Upper West Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abubakar Mitiu Rahman, has called for the institution of conflict resolution mechanisms in the party to avert any tension and bickering among members. That, he said, would go a long way to ensure a very united front and party cohesion.Citing Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’s challenge to President Mills as an example, he explained that if such systems were in place, there would not be the existence of the seeming friction among some members of the party in recent times.Mr. Mitiu Rahman was speaking to the Daily Graphic, on the sidelines of a regional youth forum organised for constituency youth organisers of the party in Wa.He expressed surprise that during the recent visit of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to the region, she never outlined any specific programme of hers which could attract people to support her bid, but rather sounded divisive. The programme had the theme: “Strategies towards mobilising grass-root support for the 2012 elections, the role of the youth”.Mr. Mitiu Rahman called for unity in the party and urged members of the party, especially the youth, to reject anybody whose actions or inaction had the potential to tear the party apart. He expressed the hope that the forum would afford the youth of the party the opportunity to study the party structures and manifesto. On development projects in the region, the regional youth organiser said the Upper West Region would forever be grateful to President Mills for the massive infrastructure development there. He mentioned the construction of roads, school buildings, setting up of computer laboratories and the distribution of free school uniforms and books, among other interventions. The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Issahaku Salia, advised the youth to continue to stand by the party since they were the ones on whose shoulders the party rested. He expressed the hope that the forum would empower and put them in right stead to continue to champion the cause of the party.Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
