Deputy Sports Minister nominee, Pius Enam Avedzi, has stated they will address the patronage of the local league after the Super clash between Hearts and Kotoko failed to attract a full stadium.
The encounter, which is the flagship game of the Ghana Premier league, recorded about a 40% attendance much to the dismay of the Deputy Sports Minister nominee.
This is in sharp contrast to the numbers recorded last season with the stadium close to full and several others outside the stadium.
But with an hour to kickoff, there were more empty seats than people in the stadium and this got the nominee looking for immediate solutions.
“Why should a game of such magnitude attract such low patronage?”
“In the past, the stadium was full with spectators when Hearts and Kotoko played. During those days, the fans went to the stadium as early as 9 am and waited until 2 pm for the gates to be opened before the game, he told Asempa Sports.
“But it is not so currently, people do not want to come to the stadium anymore. This is why I believe the President and the Sports Minister are calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Premier League Board (PLB) and GHALCA for a stakeholders meeting for a total overhaul and rebranding of the local league."
Hadzide was the campaign aide to the President during the December general polls and also served as a deputy communication director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
