Ghana’s Musa Rahman Lawson and Obodai Sai made the nation proud this past weekend as they claimed titles at the Azumah Nelson fight night.

Lawson was crowned winner of the spicy international armature middleweight contest when he technically knocked out [TKO] his Lebanese opponent, Elias Farah while emerged as the victor in the International middleweight contest against Tanzania’s Selemani Saidi.

The bout between Lawson and Elias was expected to last for eight rounds but ended being the shortest bout of the night which chronicled only 18 punches for referee Rosemary Ametepey to give the ruling.

Musa Rahman Lawson dressed in white whilst his opponent Elias Farah presented himself in red. The fight lasted for less than three minutes.

Musa's first right hook landed Elias Farah to the ground, but the latter complained that he slipped. 

Elias returned to full action in agility this time throwing jabs but to the dismay of the spectators which had a large representation of Lebanese nationals, their boxer went down again after a punch from Musa’s right hand.

For the second time, Elias came back but luck eluded him again after a powerful right blow burst on his face, retiring him to the ground. Farah sat down in a form of meditating as referee Ametepey counted time out.

Obodai victory

Selemani Saidi became nervous when he slipped and fell in the ring as he was being introduced by the MC and seems to have been affected by the screams from the home fans.

Obodai ‘ the Miracle’ Sai on the other hand did not brittle a bit as he fought in front of his home fans who were hugely represented at the Bukom Boxing Arena. 

Obodai was aggressive and timely in his punches and as a result Tanzanian’s hopeful Selemani went on his knees after he powerful blow stormed his face, but was quick to respond to referee Michael Neequaye’s call. 

Seconds after Saidi recuperated his fitness Sai pounced on him with four superb punches and this time ‘the tall man’ Saidi could not get on his knees which contracted referee Neequaye to call it quits for the Tanzanian.

Obodai Sai an orthodox boxer has now acquired 32 fights won 31, lost 2 and drew 2 whilst his opponent Selemani Saidi attained 29 fights, won 18, lost 9 and drew 2.

Speaking after the fight Obodai Sai said “In two months’ time I will fight a WBO and IBF Inter-continental fight, but Ghanaians have to pray for me and small small I will bring the world title to Ghana.”


The fight was graced by African boxing hall of fame Azumah Nelson, Ghana’s 1st World Boxing Champion DK. Poison, former Mayor of Accra now the MP for Ablekuma South Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuye and a host of others.
