In the wake of reports that Kwesi Appiah has been reappointed to be head coach of Black Stars, Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer has made sensational u-turn and has backed the former defender to succeed Avram Grant.
Palmer, who is on record to have said no indigenous coach qualifies for the top job, is now a believer of Kwesi Appiah, claiming the Al Khartoum boss is the ‘’best available’’
“If the masses are clamouring for the man (Kwesi Appiah) to be given the job then that is what it is because by evaluation or whatever assessment we have done, if you come up with a candidate, it means that person has gone through the mill and been certified as the rightful person to assume the role.”
“Unless your judgment is wrong but under our circumstances and what we want to do as a federation he is best coach available.”
The 56-year-old trainer guided the team the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil where they failed to make it to the second round but left the position by mutual consent.
However, he is expected to be named coach of the senior national team for the second time in five years following the departure of Grant.
