Asante Kotoko have parted ways with coach Zdravko Logarusic after 11 games in the Premier League season. His sack follows several calls from fans of the club who were unhappy with the technical direction of the club.
Kotoko are currently on a 4 game winless streak with the decision coming hours after their second consecutive scoreless draw at home.
A statement on their website read:
The contract of Coach Zdravko Logarusic has been terminated after an emergency Management meeting on Sunday at the club secretariat in Kumasi. The meeting, which was held just after Kotoko’s barren game with Ebusua Dwarfs on match day 11 of the 2016/17 Premier League, was primarily to discuss the coach’s future.
“Zdravko’s contract has been terminated. He has accepted the official notification given to him. Assistant coach, Godwin Ablordey will train with the team until further notice” Head of Communications, Obed Acheampong told Asantekotokosc.com in a brief interview on Sunday night.
Zdravko, at the emergency Management meeting, acknowledged the need for change in the technical direction of the club and therefore accpeted Management's decision to cut ties with him.
The Croatian coach was engaged by Kotoko on January 10, 2017. He however started work on January 12. He led the Porcupines in 11 league matches in which he won five, drew four and lost two. His tactics came under strong scrutiny and criticisms from fans – many of who questioned his 3-5-2 formation.
This is the third season in a row Kotoko have sacked their coach before the end of the first round of the league. It began with Didi Dramani two season and his successor David Duncan followed the same route last season.
