Banned Fifa Executive Committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam has accused president Sepp Blatter of running football’s governing body like a dictatorship.
Bin Hammam was handed a lifetime ban from involvement in any football-related activity by Fifa’s Ethics Committee on Saturday after being found guilty of offering financial incentives to members of the Caribbean Football Union in exchange for their backing in the presidential election.
When the initial allegations surfaced in May, the Qatari was forced to abandon his challenge for the presidency, allowing Blatter to assume a fourth consecutive term unopposed.
Bin Hammam, who has already pledged to challenge the ruling in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, believes Blatter had an ulterior motive for pursuing the charges against him.
"These are the actions of a dictator," he told Sky News. "You have witnessed, through history, the dictators when they think that a person is prominent to replace them, the first thing they do is execute him.
"They try to fabricate any allegation against him, to jail him or something like that."
