The Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Idrrisu Bature has added his voice to those defending Deputy Information Minister Baba Jamal on the mystery tape being attributed to him by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).The NPP to corroborate their claim in a press conference on Thursday August 4, 2011 provided names of 15 journalists in the Upper East region purported to be beneficiaries of an alleged government ploy to woo them to support their bid to retain power in 2012.The mystery tape has a man proposing to give his supposed addresses cars and cash as well as job placement with the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP). But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Alhaji Bature noted that it is a diabolic tactic the NPP has employed into the political discourse and it indicates clearly how desperate the main opposition party is to return to power.He said the NPP is willing to compromise the security of the country just to win the 2012 general elections.Alhaji Bature stated that the Baba Jamal mystery tape saga is part of NPP's propaganda to win the sympathy of Ghanaians, explaining that Baba Jamal’s meeting with journalists in the Upper East region was not to persuade them to embellish the facts to favour government but to establish a cordial relationship between the media and the government.The Al Hajj editor added that NPP would fail because God is the one who would determine who would win the 2012 general elections.Commenting on the flag-bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo's response that he cannot sanction Nana Akomea for his insulting language on Joy FM's Newsfile programme at the weekend because Akomea was a victim rather than the aggressor, Alhaji Bature observed that he disagrees with his (Nana Addo's) position.According to him, the NPP flag-bearer should have condemned Nana Akomea who is the Communications Director of his campaign for 2012 instead of justifying his actions.Alhaji Bautre said Nana Akufo-Addo's position rather worsens the situation since it would be seen as if he endorses politics of insults.
