Pollster and Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson has added his voice to the debate on whether the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Director, Nana Akomea should be sacked or maintained by the party’s presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Nana Akomea has come under a barrage of criticisms since last week after he was involved in a tango of insults with some party functionaries and members of the NDC government.
Several calls have followed asking for the removal from office of Mr. Akomea which has sparked a lot of debate in the media.
However, the NPP’s flag bearer has declined to sack the party’s Communications Director.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s current affairs talk show Ekosii sen on Tuesday, Mr. Ephson said he could only agree with Nana Addo for rebuffing to sideline Mr. Akomea.
He said Nana Addo could not have single handedly appointed the Communications Director but could only have approved of his appointment and therefore does not have exclusive rights to sack him from his post.
Meanwhile he disagrees with Nana Addo for saying that he has not been adequately briefed on what exactly transpired from party leadership since last Saturday.
According to him, he will be very surprised if the party leadership or Nana Addo reprimands or sanctions Nana Akomea because that will only mean a censure of the famous “all die be die” statement which literally means an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
He noted that even if Nana Akomea will be reprimanded he does not believe it will be done openly.
The NPP must be cautious if they want to take any action against Nana Akomea because he is not one noted for such behaviours, he advised.
He further maintained that Nana Akomea could not be described as a liability to the NPP or Nana Addo but mentioned that other members of the party who pass irresponsible comments in the media would rather be liabilities to the flag bearer in his bid to become president of the nation.
