NDC activist, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused Joy Fm and other media houses of conspiring with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to deliberately taint the image of the Deputy Minister for Information, Baba Jamal.
“It is a matter of deep regret for me that an otherwise credible media organization like Multimedia and Joy FM in particular would lend themselves to what is clearly a conspiracy spearheaded by the NPP to deliberately tarnish the image of Mr. Baba Jamal, journalist in this country, government of Ghana and insult the intelligence of people in this country” he says.
Speaking on Multi TV’s political talk show, Majority Caucus, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu indicated “I take strong exception to the behavior that Joy fm has put up today, and I think that those who orchestrated that particular conspiracy must bow down their head in shame.”
According to him, Joy FM and other media houses like Citi Fm and Peace Fm have portrayed an act of unprofessionalism by claiming that they have in their possession a tape that further incriminates Baba Jamal.
The Deputy Minister was heard on the tape which was aired yesterday on Joy FM’s midday news threatening to dismiss staff of the Information Service Department [ISD] who fail to project the government and its activities in a positive light. But the Deputy has indicated that he was just kidding.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu however noted that “I am extremely saddled that Joy FM will pick two completely unrelated episodes, and seek to link them just so that they can establish some premise for the kind of misbehavior that Nana Akomea put up.”
He also descended the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea who he said people have “wrongly perceived to be a gentleman, indeed I hold a contrary view, because he has exhibited that tendency over a period of time, it is not the first time that he used the kind of language that he used here, two three years ago he used the same language on Mr. Kobby Acheampong on a Newsfile programme.”
The NDC Activist also chastised Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, the NPP presidential candidate for the 2012 election, for refusing to sanction Nana Akomea over his conduct.
He said “Nana Akuffo Addo, once again, he’s displayed a very very bad judgment like the way he appointed Amfo Kwakye, a convicted drug baron as his right hand man. I think he should have been bold enough to repudiate Nana Akomea, and if possible relieve him of his post as communications director.”
According to him, “Nana Addo himself lacks the moral authority or the capacity to call him to order because he himself is guilty of the very offense that Akomea has committed because after his all die be die mantra, people prevailed on him and he refused to apologize.”
Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah who was also on the show registered his displeasure with the action taken by Joy Fm.
“It is oblivious the editorial digression to refer to that tape as new evidence or fresh evidence was not exercise discretely, because if they are referring to it as new evidence, then what that suggests is there is an old evidence, if they are referring to it as fresh evidence, what that suggest is that there is obviously something which is credible prior to coming up with that particular one” he said.
Dr. Omane Boamah asked what stopped Joy FM from saying “in a related development we have encountered a tape, blabla… but to the extent that they would want to present this as new evidence or fresh evidence in my view clearly exposes a certain conscious or unconscious conspiracy to paint the NDC government black” he added.
