The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has said the party is solidly behind the two Deputy Ministers of Information and Tourism, Messrs Mohammed Baba Jamal and James Agyenim-Boateng, respectively for their recent utterances regarding concocted tapes alleging wrong doings on the part of Mr Jamal. He said the party found nothing wrong with their behaviour and utterances to warrant their removal but added that they had rather helped to expose the hypocrisy and double standards of some leading members of the New Patriotic Patty (NPP). Briefing selected journalists at the Party’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, he described Nana Akomea’s reaction to Mr Agyenim-Boateng as description of the NPP press conference regarding the Baba Jamal tape as unacceptable and unbelievable and stated that Mr. Agyenim-Boateng never insulted Nana Akomea as it was being portrayed. Last Saturday, during a radio discussion about the alleged Baba Jamal tape saga, Mr Agyenim-Boateng noted that “ ... I think you don’t need to be a voice expert to tell that, that is not Baba Jamal’s voice on that tape. And I think it betrays the intelligence of those who addressed that press conference to come up with something as ridiculous as that. “Nana Akomea should be telling us when this meeting took place ... There are simple, sensible, basic questions that ought to be asked as far as this tape is concerned,” he said, adding “I will not withdraw anything I have said in relation to this tape.” But Nana Akomea after calling on the host to get Mr Agyenim-Boateng to stop insulting him said “I would not be insulted on this programme ... You are a stupid fool. If you will sit on this programme and call me unintelligent. You are a stupid fool and you are a minister.” Mr Asiedu-Nketiah said assuming without admitting to what Mr Agyenim-Boateng said amounted to insulting Nana Akomea, was that the best way to react? How do intelligent people react under pressure, I don't think insults are the means through which intelligent people argue their case out”. He noted that all that Mr Agyenim-Boateng sought to do was to question the intelligence behind the press conference of the NPP about a tape whose authenticity was in doubt and also wondered why those who organised the press conference went ahead to distribute documents with single names as that of people whose bank accounts have been opened. He noted that it was unfortunate that Nana Akomea sought to interprete Mr Agyenim-Boating’s description to mean that he (Nana Akomea) was unintelligent and said “the fact that Nana Akomea chose to insult Mr Agyenim-Boateng has portrayed him not to be an intelligent person in the eyes of the people”. The NDC General Secretary likened what happened to a situation where a person is accused of being a murderer and in his defence kills the one who accused him of being a murderer, and added that the reaction of Nana Akomea left much to be desired.
