Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, Stephen Balado Manu has called on the aggrieved constituency members of the Ablekuma North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to use party structures to seek redress.
Unresolved issues in the Ablekuma North Constituency of the NPP has angered some aggrieved members who embarked on a demonstration Thursday when party flag-bearer Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo visited the constituency as part of his Listening Tour ahead of the 2012 general elections.
The group is calling for the immediate removal of their Member of Parliament (MP), Justice Joe Appiah who according to them is ineffective and cannot retain the Ablekuma North seat for the NPP in 2012.
The group led by the polling station chairman for Odorkor Pentecost electoral area, Abubakari Brimah said they decided to demonstrate during Nana Akufo-Addo’s visit to the constituency to present a petition on the conduct of the MP.
According to him, he was amazed by the conduct of some party executives who prevented them from meeting the party’s flag-bearer who was on a listening campaign tour since they have petitioned the national and regional executives, council of elders of the party about the conduct of the Member of Parliament to no avail.
Abubakari Brimah warned that the conduct of Justice Joe Appiah will ruin Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances of becoming president and result in the party losing the Ablekuma North constituency seat to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) if care is not taken.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Balado Manu cautioned members in Ablekuma North constituency about the consequences of internal wrangling, a situation which he said cost the NPP dearly in the 2008 general elections.
He said members of the NPP should support the flag-bearer and work hard in the party’s bid to unseat the NDC in 2012 rather than pursuing their own parochial interest.
The Ahafo Ano South NPP MP observed that the demonstration by the aggrieved members to present their petition to Nana Akufo-Addo is unacceptable and against the party’s rules and regulations and advised that they use the appropriate channels to get the concerns known.
Balado Manu was optimistic that the concerns raised by the constituency members would be appropriately addressed by the party’s leadership.
