After her defeat in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) special congress held in Sunyani recently, the Former First Lady, Nana Adwoa Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has pledged to tour the country to encourage eligible Ghanaians, including members of the (NDC) and particularly her supporters, to go in their numbers to register when the yet to be introduced biometric electoral register is opened. Speaking at her ‘thank you ceremony’ in Sunyani, Nana Konadu said she and her team’s decision to embark on such exercise was informed by information which suggest that most of the non-delegate members of the NDC have resolved not to register and vote in the 2012 elections. She asked all those who habour such intention to discard it and register when the time is due, so as to empower them to decide Ghana’s president in 2012. “Having your name in the register empowers you to vote for any candidate of your choice”, she noted, stressing that “someone you want may come up as a candidate, but because you did not register, you will not have the opportunity to make that person your President.” Nana Konadu told the gathering to be careful with people who would come around to deceive them that the National Identification Card could be used to vote during the 2012 elections and informed them that the existing voter’s register would not be used when the biometric register comes into force. The defeated 2011 NDC candidate thanked the delegates and all her supporters for standing by her before, during and after the congress. She maintained that she still stands for the issues affecting part people, which encouraged her to contest the flagbearership position. “I am here today to thank you not because I have finished what I wanted to do, but also to assure you that I still stand for the truth, honesty and Justice strengthening the party’s structures, ensuring development and an end to poverty in the party and the country at large”, said Nana Konadu, noting “I have a plan of action to restore the party structures.” She added, “I am on a rescue mission”, reiterating that the leadership promised to address the issues that were collated from the grassroots members of the party and urged them to open their eyes and ears carefully, observe and follow developments in the party after the congress. Nana Konadu revealed that some people who claim to be founding members of the party, but whose names cannot be traced in the books of the founding fathers, were up in arms to destroy the party. “We love the party to death, so there are certain things we would not do or allow anybody or group of people to destroy the party”, she indicated.
