A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kosi Dede, says he is embarking on a unity walk from Ho in the Volta region to Accra to express his displeasure over internal wrangling in the CPP.
Kosi Dede says events unfolding within the rank and file of the CPP are not at all pleasant and leaves much to be desired and called for a ceasefire in the “backbiting attitude” of some of the members of the CPP.
Kosi Dede who is the CPP’s shadow member for Lands and Forestry, disclosed his plans in the wake of recent infighting in the run up to the CPP’s national delegates’ congress to elect party officers.
The National Youth Organizer for the CPP, Kwabena Bomfeh had earlier accused Dr. Nduom of hijacking the CPP and using his financial stature to buy his way to the flag-bearer position of the party for 2012.
Kwabena Bomfeh observed that Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom is not fit to lead the party in the 2012 elections because ‘he lacks the discipline for political party activism’.
Dr. Nduom has also described Kwabena Bomfeh as “a Loud Mouthed Empty Barrel” in the 15th August, 2011 edition of the New Crusading Guide newspaper.
It is against this background that Kosi Dede has underscored the need for total unity in the CPP, admitting that the CPP lack unity and the situation remains a great worry to him.
"Party interest should supersede all personal interests; personal attack will miss the point of achieving political unity. We should not do things that will worsen our fortunes in coming back to power, and this will not augur well for the party" Kosi Dede stressed.
On the issue of ruling parties abusing incumbency, Kosi Dede said it is difficult to draw a line between presidents abusing incumbency while out on official duties.
He therefore called for guidelines to clearly define situations the president could be deemed to be abusing incumbency when he is carrying out official duties with state resources.
