The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reignited the debate on President Mills’ decision not to stay in nor work at the Flagstaff House following allegations he has bought a mansion. The President, since assuming office in 2009 has been working at the Osu Castle with the excuse that the Flagstaff House was not yet completed. News of the President’s alleged new ‘mansion’ has raised the issue of President Mills’ continued use of the Osu Castle instead of the 80 million dollar Flagstaff House built by the previous administration. But Communication Director at the Presidency Koku Anyidoho debunked the allegations on the mansion saying the structure is for the security detail of the President even though he(Koku) had earlier stated that the President was going to pay for the building later. Director of Communications of the NPP, Nana Akomea however told Joy News there is no justification for the President not to live in the Flagstaff House. He said if the president had been using the Flagstaff House, the issue about the confusion surrounding the said mansion will not arise. But Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah says it will be wrong for anybody to suggest that President Mills has totally deserted the Presidential villa. “The President uses the Flagstaff House for very important national occasions. If the President did not think the Flagastaff House was valuable or important, he will not receive accreditations of representatives of Presidents,” he argued.
