Deputy Coach of the Senior National Team has said the Ghana Black Stars international friendly against five-time world champions, Brazil on Monday, September 5 in London, is a step in the right direction.
According to Kwasi Appiah, the match will help the stars in its quest to build a formidable side to conquer Africa and ahead of the 2014 world cup in Brazil.
The match which will come off barely three days after Ghana play Swaziland in a Group I 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium, a game the Black Stars must win to ensure their chance of qualifying for the Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Panelists on Asempa FM’s Sports Morning Show Thursday, criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA)for fixing the match for monetary gains and not in the national interest. They argued that the current stars squad were not ready to defeat Brazil, a situation they claimed may affect Ghana’s overall ranking.
However the Deputy Black Stars Coach has maintained that playing against Brazil will offer the team an opportunity to tactically adopt new and varied interpretations as a team, and will give the players who get the chance to play the needed experience, at least from the compelling brand of football Brazil plays.
It will be first time in four years that Ghana and Brazil will be meeting at the senior level. In 2007, the Selecao beat the Black Stars by a lone goal in Sweden.
The first meeting between the two sides was at the 1/16 stage of the 2006 World Cup, which the Brazilians won 3-0.
